The sad part is that the Corvair was never actually unsafe. The base model in the first year had one issue if you tried to drive it very aggressively (no anti-sway bars) which is what 'Unsafe at Any Speed' turned into a damning indictment of a safe car.

The VW Beetle used a nearly identical suspension design which was actually less safe than most Corvair's. The Porsche 356, early 911's and the 914 also used essentially identical suspension designs, albeit with anti-sway bars (like most Corvairs).
