Has anyone noticed that this time of year the squirrels are acting weird? Maybe it's because they're fixating on their nuts (you know, for winter food storage), but they're running out into the street, right in front of my bike, making me swerve and brake and almost hit them.
So far I've managed to avoid the little blighters, but I get nervous every time I see one of them standing at the edge of a sidewalk, twitching their little bushy tails, looking ready to make a run for it...
There are squirrels in Spain! Yippee!!! Haven't seen squirrels in ages. Am going to Retiro park on Sunday so will keep an eye out for aberrant squirrel behaviour. Will try not to damage any more trees.
ReplyDeleteWhat colour are they over there?
ReplyDeleteIn Montreal grey predominated.
In Toronto (and Kitchener, if you remember) the majority are black.
There are also brown and red ones in various places (or so I've heard).
What's in Madrid?
Red.
ReplyDeleteI ran over a squirrel once; he ran right out in front of me. Thump, thump under the tires.
ReplyDeleteick
ReplyDeleteRed, eh?
ReplyDeleteI recall that my eldest had a storybook when she was much younger, about a squirrel named Suzie, who was an impeccable housekeeper. Suzie was ousted from her perfect little House in the Trees by a marauding band of red squirrels.
Are the Red Squirrels of Madrid noticeably meaner than others with whom you've made acquaintance?
BTW, IIRC, Suzie got her house back in the end...
